Ever wonder how some people seem to have an ethereal radiance about them? Maybe it’s Maybelline, or maybe it’s something else, but it seems everyone is all about that glow now that it’s holiday season.

Everyone wants to look their best, particularly when it comes to a much-anticipated holiday party. But while the world takes on a magical sparkle this winter, your skin may not feel so merry and bright, and more on the dry and flaky side instead. If so, try these three simple ways to make your skin glow, sparkle, and shine for the holidays.

Shorten Your Showers

A long, hot shower might be one of the best feelings during the chilly winter months, but you’re likely doing more damage than good. The American Academy of Dermatology suggests taking a 5-to-10-minute lukewarm shower or bath. Turns out cooler temps are better when washing your hands (and just as effective at removing germs) because cold water is less irritating to the skin.

Always pat your skin until it’s damp, rather than perfectly dry, to keep some moisture sealed in, and apply lotion immediately after showering.

Change Up Your Skincare Routine

Without a change in your facial skincare, dry air can make fine lines and wrinkles more noticeable. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!) If you’re applying a moisturizer during the day, it’s likely your skin routine needs fine-tuning for the winter months.

Try swapping your lotion to a cream and massaging it into your skin for 30 seconds to maximize its effects. Apply toners and astringents sparingly, if at all. Many astringents contain alcohol, which can further dry your skin, causing it to itch, flake, crack, and even bleed.

Stay Hydrated and Eat Right

All the lotions and creams in the world can only go so far. If you’re not drinking enough water and eating right, your skin may not be properly hydrated.

Experts say healthy people need approximately 30 to 50 fluid ounces of water a day. If that sounds impossible, here are a few easy ways to incorporate more H2O into your day:

  • Choose water instead of sugar-sweetened beverages. This can also help with weight management. Substituting water for one 20-ounce sugar-sweetened soda will save you about 240 calories.
  • Choose water when eating out. You’ll save money and reduce calories.
  • Add a wedge of lime or lemon to your water to improve the taste and help you drink more water than you usually do.

Another simple way to incorporate healthy eating and skincare into your winter routine is bone broth. If you haven’t tried bone broth yet, let us introduce you to this ancient ritual.Hands holding big mug of Collagen Bone Broth with packets next to it

Collagen Bone Broth can positively support collagen production, which naturally declines as we age. Our Collagen Bone Broth is infused with collagen peptides and vitamin C. Both are crucial to producing collagen and can boost skin health when taken regularly.†
